The Mira 506 (Style 506) oval sponge is a silicone implant component used in the surgical technique of scleral buckling to treat rhegmatogenous retinal detachments. Its oval cross-sectional geometry (3 mm × 5 mm) allows it to apply a localized indenting force on the sclera, thereby supporting retinal reattachment by relieving vitreous traction and opposing the retinal break.
